Written by Arya Ponto

andrew-stantonCreative Screenwriting magazine has this great 70-minute audio recording of an interview and Q&A panel with Pixar's Andrew Stanton. In it, he talks about his experience as an animator, what it's like working at Pixar, as well as his process in creating Finding Nemo and Wall•E.

It's a great interview to listen to if you're a Pixar fan, but especially if you're an aspiring screenwriter or animator.

Today's Short: "Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarfs"

todaysshort

It's no secret that back in the day, both Disney and Warner Bros used to make some unrepentantly racist cartoons. One of the most infamous ones is Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarfs, an all-black parody of Disney's Snow White by Merrie Melodies that was released in 1943. Not surprisingly, this cartoon was banned from circulation and WB has never released it on video to this day, but the short is very popular among animators not just because of its offensive portrayal, but also because it's actually an excellent piece of animation and storytelling. Quite the dilemma.

The "Street Fighter Movies Suck!" Contest
Written by Lex Walker
Monday, 05 January 2009 11:37

This may sound premature - but I already hate the upcoming Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. The "Legend of Chun-Li"? Really? The "Legend"? Her "legend" is a really bland streetfighterposterand simple revenge story. Can thunder thighs really pull a movie all by herself? She couldn't even do it as a cartoon - Ken and Ryu had to keep the movie going on the other end.

My griping aside, I've decided that to honor the debut of this awfully wretched poster for the new street fighter movie, I've put together a Street Fighter Package which includes the following:

Street Fighter: The Animated Movie

Street Fighter: The Movie

(I couldn't help myself...suckage...)

Street Fighter II

(the good ol' SNES Cartridge!!!)

I'm hoping the awesomeness of the Animated Movie and the SNES cartridge overpower the suckiness of the Van Damme movie - we'll see. No complaints if the Van Damme Street Fighter taints the other two, please.

Fleet Foxes win Best Art Vinyl Award
Written by Tyler Barlass

fleetfoxesSure there are plenty of year end lists that offer up people's take on the best albums and songs of the most recent calendar year, but how many album art cover awards have you seen. In a recent public poll organized by artvinyl.com, Seattle's breakthrough indie rockers Fleet Foxes have just taken home the gold in regard to the very best in album covers for 2008. Their self-titled debut released through Sub Pop features an obscure painting by Pieter Bruegel titled Netherlandish Proverbs. Using a classic painting to adorn your newest musical release is apparently the hip thing to do as Coldplay's Viva la Vida finished third featuring the Eugene Delacroix painting Liberty Leading the People.

h2-teaserThe sequel for Rob Zombie's Halloween is on a the fast track. Casting had just begun, but Dimension films is already setting up a release date for this 2009. It was previously rumored that the sequel might actually get a Halloween date this time to slap the Saw franchise away from their grip on the horror holiday, but it looks like that's not happening.

Halloween 2 will now hit theaters on August 28. It's another Summer release not unlike the first film, which was released on August 31 in 2007.
