Batman Sends The Mummy Back to Its Box Office Tomb

The speculation has ended and it's now official. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor lost its opening weekend to this summer's mega-blockbuster The Dark Knight, now entering its third week of being the #1 movie in America.

Brendan Fraser's 7-years-too-late sequel, even with Jet Li yet again playing an ancient martial artist, earned $42,425,000 this weekend, a shy million of Batman's $43,800,000. Universal expected a 50 million take for the crappy Mummy movie with no mummies in sight, but Batman threw his batarang at the studio's nuts.

The Dark Knight now totals $396 million, fastly approaching another record of fastest $400 million gross.

As for Swing Vote... Let's just say that Kevin Costner needs to make a trilogy out of Waterworld. Or a prequel. No, wait, better yet—a remake directed by Al Gore.
