Zoe Bell, Movie Star?

Zoe Bell first came on my radar when Quentin Tarantino wouldn\'t shut up about her and how buddy-buddy she was with her double Uma Thurman throughout the release of Kill Bill. So much so that some entertainment magazines profiled her in their Kill Bill articles. Then she was the centerpiece in that stuntwoman documentary Double Dare. The peak, of course, was when she starred in Death Proof. Later I found out that she was Lucy Lawless\' stunt double on Xena, which obviously made her even cooler.

Now apparently ol\' Quentin\'s not the only director who sees Bell as an on-screen talent. Variety reports that Germany-based Senator Entertainment (who also distributed Death Proof as a seperate movie in Germany) has nabbed Zoe to star in a new action movie. The plot will see her as a soldier living an aimless civilian life, until she saves a young girl from danger and goes on a great adventure.

The director is to be determined, but the script was written by Sarah Thorp, whose credits include forgettables like Clea DuVall\'s See Jane Run and Ashley Judd\'s Twisted

Now this is interesting. If this still untitled new movie becomes a success (doubtful from the sound of it, but you never know), then it might launch Zoe\'s career as an action star. Now how does that figure? She did a swell job in Death Proof, but she was playing herself, literally. It would be interesting to see if she can seriously act as a character. Or would this new movie simply require her to kick ass and nothing more?

The most fun thing to speculate if she does turn into a star, of course, is the possibility of having our own Jackie Chan. I always thought the magic of those old Chan movies like Police Story and Rumble in the Bronx was those long wide shots where you see the spectacular stunts, and it\'s obvious that a) it\'s physically happening, b) it\'s really Jackie Chan doing it. That\'s partly what made the Death Proof chase sequence so gripping. It was Zoe Bell really hanging on top of a car.

Whether or not it\'ll work out, I\'ll certainly give her the benefit of a viddy.
