Michigan's four year old indie rock outfit Mason Proper, are just on the verge of making themselves nationally known. Ever since the September release of their critically lauded sophomore album Olly Oxen Free, the band has been in constant tour mode and have seen the video for their newest single "Lock and Key" in rotation on MTV2.
To help speed up the process of spreading the word on one of the catchiest indie acts on the scene, I've made Mason Proper the first victim of our "Artist Watch" section that will showcase new up and coming artists by providing streamable video and mp3s of the artist. Check out the showcased media after the jump.
Mason Proper are currently signed to New York based Dovecoat Records who also re-released the band's 2006 debut album There Is a Moth In Your Chest. The new album was produced by frontman Jonathan Visger, with help from popular producer Chris Coady (TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs). Below is the video for "Lock and Key" and above is a streamable mp3 of the song "Fog," both of which are featured on the album Olly Oxen Free.
After checking out the song and video, be sure to let us know what you think of the band. Is Mason Proper just another tired indie rock act or are they a refreshing take on the genre? We'd love to hear your opinion.
