A great music video can save a bad song. At least for me, anyway. Likewise, a bad music video can make a bad song worse. In that regard, the video for Chris Dane Owens' song "Shine on Me" from his debut album Blue Stone is a marriage of two terribles, cultivated in the depths of hell.
In the video, Chris Dane Owens—son of veteran voice actor Gary Owens—dons two looks: one as an androgynous rocker fake-playing a guitar, the other a Lord of the Rings-type hero who fights Doctor Doom and some dragons. Narcissistic doesn't cover it. Shitty comes close. Doing the facepalm, however, is the only appropriate response to this:
I'm halfway convinced this is some kind of epic joke. I'm even suspicious that the song itself is supposed to be a parody of Michael Bolton that arrived 20 years too late. Alas, I think Mr. CDO is totally serious.
