2009 Razzie Nominations

The nominees for this year's Golden Raspberry Awards were just announced, naming some of the worst films of the year.

Surprisingly, The Spirit is noticeably absent, despite the critical beatdown delivered by most critics (I wasn't too kind on it, either) that puts its Tomato Meter rating at a sad 14%, the disappointing box office, a For Your Consideration video and a campy Samuel L. Jackson giving it extra Razzie credential.

Instead, these are the movies contending for worst of 2008.

Worst Picture:
Speed Racer
r Movie
Meet the Spartans
The Day the Earth Stood Still
High School Musical 3
The Hottie & The Nottie
Dungeon Siege
The Love Guru

Reese Witherspoon (Four Christmases)

Worst Director:
Uwe Boll (Dungeon Siege)
Scott Derrickson (The Day the Earth Stood Still)
Jason Friedberg & Aaron Seltzer (Disaster Movie / Meet the Spartans)
Tom Putnam (The Hottie & The Nottie)
Marco Schnabel (The Love Guru)
Sylvester Stallone (Rambo)
Jon Avnet (Righteous Kill)
Diane English (The Women)
Roland Emmerich (10,000 BC)
Brian Robbins (Meet Dave)
Kenny Ortega (HSM3)
M. Night Shyamalan (The Happening)

Such choices! I know a lot of people are pulling for a Shyamalan sweep. Then there's High School Musical 3, which isn't just a bad movieā€”it's also directly responsible in the Great Laming of our culture. Personally, I'd like to see either a Meet Dave or Love Guru win, just to warn off Eddie Murphy and Mike Myers from further embarrassment.
