Valve has released concrete details about the much-discussed downloadable content for their smash-hit Left 4 Dead. Console owners (myself included): prepare to receive the patented Valve shaft once again.
Scheduled for a spring release on Xbox 360 and PC, the Survival Pack will introduce a new multiplayer mode called, to no one's surprise, "Survival" and two complete campaigns for Versus mode.
PC gamers will get an extra treat in the form of the first Left 4 Dead release for the Source Software Development Kit which will allow users to create campaigns that they can play with friends and strangers via Left 4 Dead's matchmaking system. The SDK update will also see a spring release, and is free of charge to all owners of L4D on the PC.
Finally, Valve announced a Critic's Choice Edition that is heading to retail stores, and will include all of the new L4D content.
Back to you console owners. There's no word on how much the Survival Pack will cost, so start your speculation engines now. For a new multiplayer mode and two versus campaigns (which I imagine are Death Toll and Dead Air), anything more than 200 points is a rip. Where are the new co-op campaigns? Where are the bug fixes (not that anyone should have to pay for those)? I can only get lost in the crop field so many times before it gets old.
Valve, it's almost Valentine's Day. Show the console community some love.
