Guster's Plan To Save The World

gusterThough I personally don't have much of an opinion on the ever persistent hot-button environmental issues, Guster vocalist Adam Gardner certainly does. In 2004 Gardner, along with his wife Lauren Sullivan, founded Reverb - an organization dedicated to educating people about environmental issues through music. So where better to educate the masses than college campuses across the country, right?

In 2006 Guster kicked off a Campus Consciousness Tour, dotting the map with tour dates at college campuses promising a "Half Rock Tour, Half Environmental Campaign." This year Guster will set out on their 4th consecutive college tour. So while other bands talk a big talk about saving the environment, Guster actually puts forth the effort to truly attempt to make a change.

Last year I was able to catch Guster when they performed at the University of Tulsa, and I actually had no idea that they were playing on behalf of the Campus Consciousness Tour until I got there. It really made no difference though once the show started. The band wasn't preachy about the purpose of their tour during their set and just gave a terrific live performance that included a wealth of songs from their superb album Ganging Up on the Sun (which was one of my very favorite albums of 2006).

Gardner, more than anyone, realizes the importance of sharing these environmental issues with college students, "Campuses have traditionally led the way for positive change in this country, Guster is in the unique position to help be a catalyst and support those students who are already fighting the good fight."

Check out the Campus Consciousness tourdates below; and, if you currently attend one of the universities that's lucky enough to be on the tour, you should seriously take the time to attend the show.
