I got an interesting press release in the mail today. Suburban Noize records has recently signed a band called Taintstick featuring somebody named Jason Ellis as the band's lead singer (the press release made sure to let me know that Mr. Ellis was involved with this project). Upon reading the names of the members of the band, and watching the video for their first song "Apple Juice," I was under the impression that Taintstick was an actual deadpan serious new band (and considering Suburban Noize's track record of picking bands to sign there's plenty of reason why I'd think this).
Upon further research though, I've found that Jason Ellis is quite a popular dude outside of music. Apparently he skates, fights and even has his own radio show on satellite radio. I've also discovered that Taintstick is a band that originated on Ellis' radio show as a half joke, half attempt at actual cool music.
So I know you want to know more about a band called Taintstick, so let's get down to the basics. Here's the band lineup taken straight from the press release, "At long last, a band with a man’s man on the mike, pro skateboarder and MMA fighter Jason Ellis, flanked by drummer/studio mastermind Shoebox, ace shredder Cowfucker on guitar, and, for the ladies, bass player and former porn phenom The Illusionist (AKA Rawdog)."
A guy named Cowfucker and a porn star in the same band!? Please tell me this isn't a lie.
The band's debut album is due out this summer but the video for the band's first single is available here. I'm not sure if they're trying to make fun of pop punk bands in this video or just trying to imitate them, but either way it's bad. I'll leave you with one of the best quotes of the day taken from the band itself, "It’s hard to imagine that anyone could make a label with a bunch of white guys rapping about weed look bad, but Taintstick is going to try." All I can say is good luck.
