Now here's a remake I can get behind. Once upon a time, George Romero bungled up the rights to Night of the Living Dead, landing it in public domain. Since then, numerous companies have taken advantage of it by releasing new cuts, colorized versions and even outright remakes, such as the awful Night of the Living Dead 3D.
Night of the Living Dead: Reanimated takes advantage of it in a creative way. The project calls for amateur animators to contribute their talents in reenacting scenes from Romero's film, then assemble them together. Have a look at the trailer.
Hand drawn, flash animation, rotoscoping, puppets, stop motion—any style is accepted, as long as it syncs to the original film's audio track and is in black-and-white. It's a great collaborative endeavor that shows a total love for the source film.
The project is non-profit and will be released under a Creative Commons license, so the artists retain all rights to the submitted material.
If you want to participate, there's still time left before the extended deadline (April 24). Peep the website for more info. Me, I can't wait to see the finished film.
