True Blood: Bob Dylan Helps with the Bloodlust

The new season of HBO's hit vampire show True Blood is returning for its second season next month. Despite getting mixed critical reaction when it first started, the show gained more following and better reviews as it went on. By its end, it was reported to be HBO's most popular show since the end of The Sopranos. Most people I've talked to thinks that the more ridiculous, over-the-top and soapy it got as the season went on, the more it grew on them.

In anticipation for its return, HBO has started airing promos for it using Bob Dylan's new single "Beyond Here Lies Nothin'" from his new album Together Through Life. Above is the new one released just this past weekend.

Here's the first one that aired the previous week:

While the use of the song fits in perfectly with the show's camp-drama Louisiana flavor, let's hope that it's not a sign of them changing the theme song. It's one of the few shows that I refuse to fast-forward the opening of when I'm playing it back on DVR. The excellent montage, coupled with Jace Everet's "Bad Things," makes for one of the best opening credits on television.

Somehow, that "God Hates Fangs" joke never gets old. I don't think they're swapping the opening, but I like any excuse to post that video.

The DVD and Blu-ray of True Blood season one will be released on May 19th. Season 2 kicks off June 14th. Do catch up.
