IFC Heralds the Coming of "Antichrist"

Well, then, that didn't take long at all, did it?

Because controversy is always an easier sell than anonymity, and "THE MOVIE THAT SHOCKED CANNES" is a great marketing line, IFC Films has picked up Lars von Trier's highly controversial (see this post) film Antichrist for US distribution.

"Since it premiered at Cannes on Monday, we haven't been able to stop
talking or thinking about Antichrist," Hollywood Reporter quoted IFC Entertainment president Jonathan
 Sehring saying.

No word on when we'll get to see it—pleasepleaseplease, I'm dying here—but knowing IFC, we'll get a simultaneous theatrical and On Demand debut, so as to maximize potential viewers given the (I'm assuming) very small pool of theaters willing to show the movie. It'll be interesting to see if they'd even bother submitting it to the MPAA for an NC-17 rating (there is no way it'll get an R).

IFC also acquired the Ken Loach comedy Looking for Eric.
