The day has finally come. All of my worldly dreams came true today when it was announced that a super-group formed of Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes), Jim James (My Morning Jacket), and M.Ward (M. Ward, She & Him) will be not only be releasing a full-length album on September 22nd, but they are also releasing it’s first single for free.
They go by the name ‘Monsters of Folk’, and the song is called “Say Please”. All you have to do to get it is visit their website (www.MonstersOfFolk.com) and type in the word ‘Please’, and it’s yours. Seriously.
Oberst has been on a band-starting craze of late, releasing a solo album, then forming ‘Conor Oberst & The Mystic Valley Band’. He’s been talking about starting a band with M. Ward for months now, but I never thought we’d actually see it come to fruition.
The single is catchy, but it is only the tip of the iceberg for the band. It’s impossible that three giants wouldn’t be able to assemble a fantastic album. I know that’s not objective, and as a music writer I should be ashamed of such a statement, but I’m not. It’s just plain logic.
And now begins the countdown to September 22nd. But in the meantime, go to www.MonstersOfFolk.com, say ‘Please” and get your hands on this tune.
