SCREAM 2009: Scorsese Shows New "Shutter Island" Footage

Making its presence known at the Scream Awards is Martin Scorsese's latest thriller, the upcoming Shutter Island starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Scream unveils the world premiere an exclusive new trailer for the film during the show. Thoughts and description below.

The trailer begins with a freaked out Leo, then cuts back to his arrival on Shutter Island. As we see the the same footage from the previous two trailers—Jackie Earle Haley's prisoner, Elias Koteas' scarred face—the trailer keeps cutting back to Leo freaking out. The trailer eventually ends with Haley snarling at Leo, "You'll never get off this island!"

While there aren't really any new scenes shown from the latest theatrical trailer, which is disappointing, what it does well is editing it to have more of a horror movie feel that's reminiscent of Silent Hill. Who knows if that's actually representative of Scorsese's film, though.

Shutter Island comes out February 19, 2010.

The 2009 Scream Awards will air October 27th at 10PM as a two-hour special on Spike TV.
