Battlefield Play4Free announced, Closed beta

As if there weren't enough "play for free" games already out there, EA announced "Battlefield Play4Free", hot on the heels of Battlefield Heroes. However, in stark contrast to Battlefield Heroes, "Battlefield Play4Free" has "photo-real characters, environments, weapons and maps." It also promises to provide a "core, realistic" battlefield experience for free--something that fans "have been clamoring for." That sounds familiar.

Presumably, "Battlefield Play4Free" will rely heavily on premium content--or rather, players purchasing extra items, be they cosmetic or game-changing. This is a hot topic among gamers, as generally the "premium content" approach is met with mixed feelings. Obviously, should the items remain cosmetic-only, fans should have no qualms with it. However, one can imagine that it will follow in the footsteps of Battlefield Heroes.

A closed beta for the game will be available starting November 30th, and players can sign up for it when the time arrives on the official website. Slots will presumably be limited, so prospective players will want to camp out on the website, mashing F5 like the internet pros they are.
