Rockstar has just released the trailer for their upcoming open-ended sandbox game, L.A. Noire. Set in a "perfectly re-created Los Angeles" of the 1940s, the story revolves around a series of murders which you, the player, will have to solve. Exactly how much your own personal sleuthing skills will play into your ability to succeed in the game is unclear, making it sound like a much more expansive Max Payne, but in the 40s.
It's hard to know too much about the game from that, beyond the basic animation style and characterization. As expected, it doesn't show gameplay as they're just trying to show off the moody atmosphere they created. However, it is nice to see what looks like a promising film noir story, as both in games and film they're few and far between.
