IFC snagged the distribution rights for Buck after it won the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival, and frankly it seems like they picked up a great documentary in the process. One of the country's last true cowboys, Buck Brannaman wanders across America acting as a traveling horse whisperer so that people and their horses can see eye-to-eye. Buck marks the directorial debut of Cindy Meehl who followed Buck through a typical year where he's on the road for about 9 months. Buck arrives in theaters on June 17th.
Here's the official synopsis:
Buck follows Brannaman from his abusive childhood to his phenomenally successful approach to horses. He eschews the violence of his upbringing and teaches people to communicate with their horses through leadership and sensitivity, not punishment. Buck possesses near magical abilities as he dramatically transforms horses - and people - with his understanding, compassion and respect. In this film, the animal-human relationship becomes a metaphor for facing the daily challenges of life.
