For the last week, Michael Bay has been shouting from the mountaintop how important it is to see Transformers: Dark of the Moon in 3D, even going so far as to make sure theaters have the best possible copy of the prints and the correct lighting settings for their projectors. Even a few critics have noted that the 3D exhibited therein is the most technically advanced yet seen (although it currently sits at a 38% on RottenTomatoes). Yet, with how seriously burned the audience felt after the last outing it's not hard to understand why people will be hesitant to see it all, and nevermind paying an extra $5 to see it in 3D.
Paramount knows this. Hell, how couldn't they? And so they've made an interesting offer: though buy Transformers or Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen on Blu-ray or DVD at Best Buy and they'll give you a voucher to update your normal ticket to one for a 3D showing. The deal is available until July 16th.
First off, if you don't want Transformers or Revenge of the Fallen on your shelf, in any format, the deal really isn't for you (obviously). However, even if you do want it on your shelf, spending somewhere between $7 and $20 to get that $5 upgrade to 3D requires you to be quite a fan of the franchise - and if you're already a fan, you've probably already bought the films.
Second, only one of those films is worth seeing ever again (take a guess as to which one), and, if you trust Michael Bay, you need to see these films in the best possible way, which is HD. So really, the deal comes down to "Buy Transformers on Blu-ray at Best Buy and get a free upgrade to a 3D ticket".
For some people, that's a perfect deal. If that's you, enjoy.
