The Quick Wedding Playlist According to Movies

bridesmaids_banner

Hailed as “brazenly hysterical” by People Magazine and “the best comedy of 2011” (Back Stage), Bridesmaids is the riotously funny comedy that (currently) holds the title as the comedy of the year. Even more impressive, it came on to the scene with relatively little fanfare and put The Hangover Part II to shame. Bridesmaids has easily become one of the most talked about movies of the year. Kristin Wiig stars as Annie, the Maid of Honor that finds herself at a low point in her life and struggling to fulfill her duties to her best friend. With her wacky behavior, Annie becomes one of the wildest bridesmaids to come along...and a bit of a headcase.

At the end of the film, at the wedding that does happen in spite of everything that goes wrong, Wilson Phillips give a surprise performance of the hit 90's song "Hold on". And since not everyone can get a famous music group to sing their favorite tune at their reception, they have another responsibility: choosing the wedding party playlist. In this feature, we'll list the best wedding party songs, each of which has appeared in the reception scene of at least one wedding movie in one form or another. And, if you leave a suggestion for a song you think should be on this list, you'll be entered to win one of the two copies of Bridesmaids we're giving away on DVD

The First Dance

For some couples, the easiest part of planning a wedding is choosing a song for the first
dance but for most, choosing that one special song can feel like a daunting task. Some
popular choices include Shania Twain’s “From this Moment,” “At Last” by Etta James and
Frank Sinatra’s “The Way you Look Tonight” .

"Shout" - The Isley Brothers

This classic hit has been playing at weddings for years. The Isley Brothers really gave us
all something to shout about and brides and grooms everywhere are hearing our calls. You
know you’re having fun when at a wedding reception when you’re joining the bride and
groom kicking your heels and shouting a little bit louder now.

"Love Shack" - The B-52s

How many people can actually claim to know what any of these lyrcis mean, even if they can honestly say they know them? Just like "Shout", "Love Shack" is a social song, a song where just about everyone in the crowd will chime in depending on which lyric they remember.

"Pour Some Sugar on Me" - Def Leppard

Def Leppard really sets the reception house on fire with their 80’s classic “Pour some sugar
on me.” For those nostalgic for big hair and tight leather pants, this 80’s cheesy rock anthem
is a smash during peak dance hours of a wedding. Pour some sugar on that wedding!

"Ain't No Mountain High Enough" - The Supremes

Gosh, how sweet, a song outlining the depths and distances which a couple of lovebirds will overcome to be together. Consequently, it's in every wedding and then in countless movies featuring weddings.

"I Gotta Feelin'"- The Black Eyed Peas

This song may not be a long withstanding classic like "Shout", but it's sure to be on wedding
playlists for ages! Nothing will make you want to "fill up your cup and yell MAZEL TOV!" like
Fergie and Will.i.am's great beats - so don't try and pretend you don't love this song. Just get
up and dance!

"I Say a Little Prayer for You" - Aretha Franklin

Do we even need to say anything for this one? The song was written into the entirety of My Best Friend's Wedding and made this, easily, one of those songs that graced (cursed) each and every reception in the decade that followed. Whether the groom liked it or not.

"Thriller" - Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson’s classic song Thriller is a hit around the world and on one of the most
successful albums ever, it’s no question that Thriller should makethat wedding playlist. This
song will surely be one of the most looked back on moments from your wedding video.

"The Locomotion" - Little Eva

This song is a surefire crowd pleaser for the young and the old alike. Not only will this song
make people want to participate and get out onto the dance floor to form a train, your party
guests may even make a friend or two while making their way around the room during
their "chugga chugga motion".

"Closing Time" - Semisonic

Alas, all celebrations must come to an end a wedding ceremony is no exception. Sometimes
guests need a little push to close down the night. But just because the night is over doesn't
mean that you have to go out on a slow note! Try something that gets the message across of
ending the night but still staying up tempo, such as "Save The Last Dance For Me". Hey, the
honeymoon awaits!

He's a TV junkie with a penchant for watching the same movie six times in one sitting. If you really want to understand him you need to have grown up on Sgt. Bilko, Alien, Jurassic Park and Five Easy Pieces playing in an infinite loop. Recommend something to him - he'll watch it.
