Oscars 2012 - Best Original Song: "The Muppets" vs. "Rio"

As we lead up to the Academy Awards tonight we'll be taking a look at all the nominees in the bigger categories, and to kick us off we'll look at a category that only has two nominees: the Best Original Song. The first film up for the award is something of a no-brainer as it was really the only film this year that could even be loosely called a musical: The Muppets and its song "Man or Muppet", written by Bret McKenzie, with Jason Segel and his Muppet co-star. The nomination breaks the Muppets' 28-year-long Oscar nomination dry spell when The Muppet Caper was similarly nominated for its music. In the other corner is Blue Sky Animation's Rio, starring Anne Hathaway and Jesse Eisenberg, and its song "Real in Rio", by Sergio Mendez, Carlinhos Brown, and Siedah Garrett, and sung by Eisenberg, Hathaway, Jamie Foxx, George Lopez, and will.i.am.

Check out both below, and don't be afraid to cast your vote for which is best in the comments.

He's a TV junkie with a penchant for watching the same movie six times in one sitting. If you really want to understand him you need to have grown up on Sgt. Bilko, Alien, Jurassic Park and Five Easy Pieces playing in an infinite loop. Recommend something to him - he'll watch it.
