'Ridge Racer Unbounded' Release Date Hidden in Trailer

ridge_racer_unbounded_banner

Fans of racing games take heed, Namco Bandai Games snuck a trailer online for Ridge Racer Unbounded the other day, and with it's release date hidden within. Ridge Racer Unbounded will mark the first installment in the series to debut on both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, with past episodes like Ridge Racer 6 and Ridge Racer 7 acting as exclusive launch games for the Xbox 360 and PS3, respectively. Since Ridge Racer 7, the series has stuck to the realm of portable gaming devices with Ridge Racer Accelerated for the iOS and the recently released (back in March) Ridge Racer 3D for the Nintendo 3DS.

I'm surprised it's taken Namco Bandai 6 years to get around to making an entry that is supported across the Xbox 360, PS3, and PCs - but there it is.

DLC Digest: "Mass Effect 2: Arrival"

mass_effect_2_banner

Mass Effect 2 was my favorite game of last year. Given any chance to dive back in, I would do so without hesitation. The previous releases have all offered some great additional content that really helped craft Mass Effect 2 into one of the most addicting games on the market. Bioware has decided to give one last offering to the legions of fans with one final adventure to start teasing the game into Mass Effect 3. Now, Arrival has ‘ahem’ arrived and along with it the last mission before we begin the slow countdown to the Reaper invasion.

A Video Introduction to "L.A. Noire"

Right now, there isn't another video game I'm more excited for than Rockstar Games' upcoming Ellroy tribute, L.A. Noire, which is finally hitting the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this May.

What about it, really? People hear the Rockstar name and immediately picture a Grand Theft Auto set in the 40's. It's not, and what gets me revved up about the game's release doesn't even have anything to do with painstakingly recreated open world of 1947 LA; impressive as a task as that may be. It has more to do with the promised gameplay, which Rockstar is creating a series of videos to show off. The first of the series, embedded below, gives an overview of the kind of things you'll do in the game, and it does more to sell the game than any of the previously released trailers.

All Points Bulletin going Free 2 Play

APB logo

Now-defunct MMOFPS All Points Bulletin is confirmed to have been sold to GamersFirst, owned by K2. They plan to make it Free 2 Play, following in the footsteps of Battlefield Play4Free.

It appears that free to play is the new pay to play, as developers can't stop making money off of micropayments that will drive users to spend hundreds on simple in-game items. Sure, it's profitable, but is it worth murdering your playerbase?

New Game Trailer for Rockstar's "L.A. Noire"

Rockstar has just released the trailer for their upcoming open-ended sandbox game, L.A. Noire. Set in a "perfectly re-created Los Angeles" of the 1940s, the story revolves around a series of murders which you, the player, will have to solve. Exactly how much your own personal sleuthing skills will play into your ability to succeed in the game is unclear, making it sound like a much more expansive Max Payne, but in the 40s.

It's hard to know too much about the game from that, beyond the basic animation style and characterization. As expected, it doesn't show gameplay as they're just trying to show off the moody atmosphere they created. However, it is nice to see what looks like a promising film noir story, as both in games and film they're few and far between.

Battlefield Play4Free announced, Closed beta

As if there weren't enough "play for free" games already out there, EA announced "Battlefield Play4Free", hot on the heels of Battlefield Heroes. However, in stark contrast to Battlefield Heroes, "Battlefield Play4Free" has "photo-real characters, environments, weapons and maps." It also promises to provide a "core, realistic" battlefield experience for free--something that fans "have been clamoring for." That sounds familiar.

NY Comic-Con '10: Wookies Beat It!

One booth that was soaking up all the attention at this year's New York Comic-Con was the one set up for Ubisoft's dancing game Michael Jackson: The Experience for the Nintendo Wii. They not only had volunteers playing the game on an actual stage, they even provided fedora hats and red jackets, while a fog machine added drama to the spectacle. I was watching some friends try their hands (and feet) at the game, but then things got really interesting when a couple of Wookies decided to play.
