"Layoff," The Game That Makes You Feel Like An AIG Executive!

layoff2With the second coming of the depression upon us and record amounts of companies ditching the citizens of the USA like fans of the Detroit Lions, it was only an amount of time before someone decided to have a little fun with all these scoundrels. Yes, I just used a 1950's bad guy term.

The game is simple, yet wonderful as it is a depressing version of Bejeweled. Instead of matching up the correct colors and gaining points and multipliers to increase your score, you are instead firing your staff by matching up the correct types of workers and saving your company as much revenue as possible. Here's what it looks like:

Resident Evil 5 Has Fastest Sales in Series History

re5RE5 was suppose to sell well, but wasn't estimated to sell quite THIS well. RE5 publishing company Capcom announced that they have shipped a whopping 4 Million copies in their first shipment. This is the largest single shipment of the series to date.

Since RE5 was just released in the West (US and the such if you don't own a globe) so it will take a little time to get the correct numbers for those sales. In Japan though, where the game has been available since the 5th the sales are really high and the PS3 version has clocked in with roughly 319,590 units sold while the X360 has clocked in with roughly 79,157 units sold. Of coarse the 360 sales will be lower due to it being Japan and the PS3 being held upon a higher pedistal.

U.S. Government Targets Gamers In Latest Anti-Weed Campaign

And with this, the U.S. government's AboveTheInfluence campaign officially jumps the shark.

The U.S. government is targeting gamers in its latest AboveTheInfluence ad, informing them that one puff of a joint could spell doom for their gaming skills. You don't want your Call of Duty 4 k/d ratio to suffer, do you? Neither does the U.S. government.

The web site warns that "getting high affects your brain in ways that may directly influence your gaming ability" including "many of the skills required for winning a background, defeating an opponent, [and] beating games."

Downloadable Content: The Death Knoll for Retail Videogame Trade-Ins

If you've spent  anytime recently on Xbox Live, Play Station Network or Nintendo's Virtual Network (does anyone really use that?) you'll notice that more and more there is a whole lot more game content making its way to gamers than there used to be. In fact in the past year gamers have been witness to everything from new map packs, weapons and cars to full fledged story missions. In the case of Rockstar's, The Lost and the Damned, it's practically a whole new game housed in the same landscape and setting of the original GTA IV.  Additionally you have the consoles offering up old games to download direct to your hard drive. All this in addition to stuff we've come to expect like demos and other media such as trailers, TV shows, movies, and music videos.
