Music Video Spotlight: Cameron the Public

cameron_public_banner

While some music lovers take delight in a monstrous drum or guitar solo that rattles the bones or makes you see God, my preference has always been incredible vocal performances in whatever form they manifest--whether entirely natural or manipulated in some new clever electronic way. If you too have a special appreciation for talented vocalists, then you ought to meet Cameron the Public. Comprised of Cameron Rafati's striking vocals and the strong but understated instrumentals of Douglas Showalter (Guitar), Bana Haffar (Bass), Peter Dyer (Keys) and Emmanuel Cervantez (Drums), Cameron the Public feels new yet familiar thanks to Rafati's voice having a similar strength and sound to those of Coldplay's Chris Martin and Train's Pat Monahan, while adding something all its own as well.

Their first music video is for their single "Broken Door" which perfectly illustrates Cameron's vocal range. Check it out below.

gramatik_Banner

If there's an electronic equivalent of Jazz, Gramatik might just have found it with his blend of instrumental, electronic funk that takes the familiar basslines and sampling of the digital music world and mixes them into fantastical grooves that seldom need words to hook you in. Currently Gramatik is midway through his Age of Reason Tour and will be appearing at New York City's Webster Hall with supporting acts Cherub and HeRobust starting at 8pm. If you like live music and you're in the city needing something to do, you can't do much better than Gramatik. It's like Jazz updated for the dubstep/electronic era. Music Video Spotlight: Gentlemen Hall

gentlemen_hall_banner2

Sometimes you come across a song that feels like the encapsulation of pure summer or relaxation, and there's really no better way to describe Gentlemen Hall and their track "Sail into the Sun" which many people may now know due to its use in Target and Samsung commercials. (You're lying if you deny discovering new music via commercials and TV shows - everyone does this.) It's an aural joy infusion and the kind of track you can listen to over and over before eventually adding it into some kind of beach mix, assuming you do that whole playlist thing. Gentlemen Hall are currently just wrapping up a tour of shows with a final one coming on May 18th in Boston, but to tide you over until they come to a city near you, we've got the music videos for three of their songs below. Enjoy.

Last Auction for Tickets to Swedish House Mafia's Black Tie Rave Benefit Starts Today @ 10am EST

Hurricane Sandy hit New York and New Jersey pretty hard and to this day there are still people without homes, who've lost everything and don't know exactly how they're going to get their lives back on track. While the most helpful thing a person can do in this situation is to volunteer directly or donate money, there are alternate means of support like the one Swedish House Mafia has planned for February 28th as part of their "One Last Tour": a Black Tie Rave where all ticket proceeds go towards helping the victims of Hurricane Sandy as well as at-risk children via the Save the Children initiative. It's a win-win-win situation. You get to lend support, people receive badly needed financial assistance, and you get to enjoy an incredible night of music at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom.

Today is the third and last round of ticket auctions and those profits will be adding to the almost $475,000 raised from the first two rounds. If you're interested you should head here at 10am EST to get yours. We've included more information below.

Music Video Spotlight: Lowlakes

lowlakes_banner

There's nothing quite like easing into your day from sleep to waking with a really smooth, beautiful piece of music, and that's exactly what Melbourne-based band Lowlakes specializes in. The hauntingly beautiful vocals of Tom Snowdon have echoes of Jeff Buckley floating in each note, and the instrumentation helps to create a rich, soothing sound that can just as easily sing you to sleep as it can rouse you from it. Today we've included two music videos for singles off their self-titled debut EP, and both deserve your undivided attention. The first "Song for Motion" serves as the calming lullaby and the second "Cold Company" picks up the tempo slightly while still making perfect use of Snowdon's free-flowing beckoning style. Both videos are very simple, but also very hypnotic visually and aurally.

Swedish House Mafia Hosts a Black Tie Rave to Benefit Victims of Hurricane Sandy

swedish_house_mafia_Banner

Few things are better for a lover of electronic music than an all-night rave lasting late into the night featuring the music of a headliner like Swedish House Mafia, but what if it's for charity? While most of us East Coast folks have returned to life as usual, for many who recently bared the brunt of Hurricane Sandy's wrath, the destruction and interruption to their lives is still a very real and present thing. To help with this ongoing suffering, Swedish House Mafia has dedicated their February 28th show in New York City to raise money to ease the suffering of the victims, with 100% of the net proceeds to go towards helping them get their lives back on track via the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City and the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund. The first third of the tickets will go on auction on December 14th, and if you're interested to get your hands on them, head on over here or to Ticketmaster. Seriously, get some of these tickets, you won't regret it.

It's for a great cause and Swedish House Mafia puts on an incredible show, so if there was ever a concert worth attending. This is it.

If you're reading this, chances are you're a bit too old to go trick-or-treating on Halloween night, which means you either need to stick around your home or apartment to dole out candy to the kids who aren't or you have to find a bunch of similarly afflicted old folks to find another way to celebrate Halloween.
