Here we are with a new entry for "Today's Short." the first of this new decade. Before we get to it, I'd like to plug something for ShortoftheWeek.com, who graciously asked me to write a guest entry for them last week, in which I reviewed one of my old favorites The Cat with Hands. As for what we're looking at today, it's a little something from everyone's favorite building blocks.

A self-proclaimed hybrid of The Karate Kid and Tron, Turbo has the feel of a movie made for the 80's generation, but with an apparent love for 90's gaming world—particularly how it has shades of Tekken and Street Fighter in its blood, as well as the arcade setting. Starring Justin Chon (Twilight) and Jocko Sims (Crash series), it's a fun little sci-fi fighting movie that boasts some pretty impressive production value.

From the maker of Chainsaw Maid (and if you've never heard of that, you're missing out) comes this other kickass—and somewhat unsettling—animated short from Japanese claymation artist Takena Nagao. While Pussycat is a fun little short, Takena's description of his film is pretty perturbing: "I'm so horny....LET'S HAVE FUN!"

Ever realize just how violent Luxo, Jr. is in that Pixar intro logo? The folks from CollegeHumor certainly did, and they've decided to show in full just what happens after the beloved hopping lamp squishes the letter I to oblivion. Needless to say, it wouldn't start a Pixar movie off on a high note.

I'm not exactly sure if this should even constitute as a short film. It's more like a frightening family reel. But what the hell. In this video, young Max—who should probably go into the entertainment biz judging from his other hyperactive YouTube videos—gets a Batman costume for Christmas and turns into a little monster. I applaud the father for allowing his son to dress up as Batman and beat up the mother. Now that's a home movie.

What's the cruelest revenge plan you can think of for when your girlfriend dumps you for your boss? The guy in Home Base has the right idea: get in her mother's pants and flaunt it in front of her. Played with perfect smarminess by Kristoffer Polaha, who had a recurring stint on Mad Men and was just in a recent episode of Dollhouse.

A dog farts, and lo, the world is born. This short animated piece by Scott Coello is a mystifying story with a crafty DIY look, dedicated to his own dog Maggie. According to Coello, She Farted and Created the World is composed of various trash materials, including "Bank statements, bills, scraps found on the street, pointless spam mail, paper the graphic kids throw out (they waste so much paper)... whatever I could get my mitts on!"

If Love is Deaf is a love story, you can say it's a strange one. Written and directed by Andrew Kenneth Gay, it starts with a man in a tuxedo (John-William Wright) washing up ashore from the sea. In a weird happenstance, he finds a beautiful deaf woman (Michelle Wargo) sitting alone in a wedding gown. What are the chances? It ends just at the right moment, the right way: coyly.

Made in the time between him working on The Life Aquatic and Coraline, Moongirl is Henry Selick's first—and only—work using computer animation. It tells the story of a boy who is transported to the moon, where he meets a girl who lets him in on the secret of how the moon gets its light. After developing the short, the story was turned into an illustrated book, which was released as a package with the short on DVD.
