I know I'm not the only one here how has wasted countless amounts of quarters in their youth on the ultra addictive space shooter known as Galaga. It was a game that was simple in it's premise, like most arcade games of the time were, but painstakingly hard to master.
Galaga is also one of those games that the new generation of gamers may never take the time to play. Well the kind folks at Namco have decided to try and combat this fact by releasing Galaga Legions later this year for the Xbox Live Arcade.

Galaga Legions is no simple port of the 1981 arcade game. Legions graphics are bright and dazzling. Rather than just shooting up at aliens that are sitting within a stark black starry background, the new game will cover your screen in multiple colors; the ship you control and the missiles you shoot will leave blue lines of light as they move, all the while the brightly colored enemies will come at you from all directions.
One of cool new abilities that will appear on Legions is the ability to access an entire "Legion" of ships to battle behind you. This ability will basically flood the screen full of firepower, destroying nearly every enemy in sight. It's a handy skill to have, especially since there will be times when multiple waves of enemies will come at you at once, making the new skill a necessity.
From what I've seen, the game looks downright beautiful while still staying true to it's age old roots. Galaga Legionsis set for a 2008 release date on the XBox Live Arcade, so keep your eyes peeled for this one in the near future. Below are a few screenshots are the game taken from TeamXBox, enjoy!
