Recently, the game industry has disappointingly decided to take a page from the embattled music industry when dealing with the ever present issue of piracy. Game developers consisting of Atari, Codemasters, Topware Interactive, Reality Pump and Techland will reportedly serve notice to 25,000 UK residents who are suspected of illegally bootlegging games.

According to Gamespot News, the notice will require an out of court payment of £300 ($563), where as the developers will then chose 500 people who ignore the notice and take legal action against them.

As a music writer, I constantly sense the deep feeling of disdain towards the major label music industry for the way they handled the big "Napster incident" a few years back. Meanwhile, the gaming industry seems to me as if they're heading down a similar path. They've already made headlines recently when a single mother of two was forced to pay out 30,000 dollars for illegally downloading a pinball game. It seems to me that this course of action may do more harm than good to an industry that seems to be pretty well off, piracy or not.
