Never before had zombie fighting been so much fun than when Capcom first released Dead Rising three years ago. The original game, set in the small hamlet of Willamette, focused on an unwitting hero, Frank West, who became trapped in a mall and had 72 hours to clear the mall by any means possible. That's where the fun began. With a combination of gory, ridiculous action, inventive weapon making and some RPG elements, the game quickly became an instant classic (despite the notorious problem with the save points and the real time structure clashing -- can we say do over to the 10th power?). Now 1.5 million copies later Capcom has signed on Canadian developer Blue Castle Games (The Bigs, baseball game), and the snoozefest MLB Front Office Manager) to make a sequel. Long rumored that the original game would be retrofitted for online multiplayer, that fantasy faded and hopes of a sequel began to grow. Originally an Xbox exclusive, Dead Rising 2 will be available for Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Windows PC. Set a few years after the first zombie infection, it would seem the virus has spread to the new town of Fortune City (and everywhere else) and that there'll be a whole new mess of weapons to go zombie killing with. As to any other details, Capcom has not released any yet.Given the critical acclaim Valve scored last year with Left for Dead and what we expect to see from Resident Evil 5, Capcom's sequel has a lot to live up to. Stay tuned to JPP for updates as we get them. |
