Some great new trailers released this week. The six that we're going to take a look at here are all first trailers for these movies. From cute little Coraline to a bloody Mickey Rourke, here are this week's glimpses into what's coming.
This new remake/sequel/re-imagining/unclear take on Witch Mountain looks slick and a lot of fun, in a Collateral Meets Predator For Kids kind of way. Dwayne Johnson's carving a nice niche for himself in action-comedies, as he should.
It's funny how they've released a bunch of clips from the movie over the past few months, but this is the first full trailer for the film. Thankfully, it looks absolutely fantastic. I like how it actually looks like stop-motion here. For some reason in a lot of the clips, the movement is so smooth you could mistake it for computer animation. Pixar might actually get a serious competition for Best Animated Feature next year.
And here's another animated film that could be great. This Astro Boy teaser isn't much, but it's getting me even more excited for it, primarily because I'm a sucker for the character created by manga legend Osamu Tezuka (in terms of his genius, think Alan Moore and Stan Lee rolled into one). Hopefully the film lives up to the legacy.
Definitely the best of the week here. It's a bit schmaltzy, but it shows why this might be Mickey Rourke's best performance in years, if not ever. It also looks like quite a departure from Aronofsky's usual stuff, which should be interesting to see.
A somewhat ambiguous trailer, but presents the harrowing mood I've come to expect from an Atom Egoyan movie. In case the trailer isn't that clear, the film examines Post-9/11 obsession with terrorism and also the culture of Internet celebrity as a kid begins to imagine himself to be the son of a terrorist and announces this on the Internet as fact.
Lastly, we have the first trailer for Superbad director Greg Mottola's new teen dramedy Adventureland. It looks to capture the same feeling of teenage awkwardness and nostalgia in the final days of being a high school student, though here it's chronicling the summer job instead of the end-party. Nice to see Martin Starr in a significant role. |
