End of the week, it's time to take a gander at some of the more interesting trailers of the week. From Bryan Singer's Valkyrie, to the full threatrical trailer of Frank Miller's wacky The Spirit, to the even-more-awesome W. trailer, and finally the amazing new trailer for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
A few day ago I noted that the new W. trailer put me in complete turn around. Now here's a 2-minute extended version of that trailer and it's making me really excited for this film now. It's unbelievable, but it's true. This movie looks like it could be hilarious in a surreal kind of way.
Then we have the new trailer for the WWII movie Valkyrie. I'm still on the fence about the accent thing. Theoretically, speaking in anything other than German is ridiculous, but I guess we're just culturally conditioned to expect Nazis to speek lag zis, ja? Aneezing else vud be abzoort. Whatever. I don't know, this film has potential to be entertaining, but it looks like it's good for some dun-dun-dun action suspense and not much else, which I believe is part of their plan to make a period drama look more appealing. Hopefully it's more than just an M:i:IIIrd Reich.
And then there's this. Oh, boy. I have a theory that Frank Miller's life goal nowadays is to be the guy that blurs the line between noir and comedy. He has such a love for the kind of noir that emphasizes on ridiculous flowery language so much that his noir style becomes unintentionally comical, but at the same time he injects plenty of intentional humor, making it almost impossible to distinguish between the two. This is incredibly apparent if you're reading his All-Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder (example), but you can also see it in this trailer. Stay tuned to see if I'll ever decide if this is a good thing or not. Let's face it, it is pretty damn funny. I'm thinking it's going to be one of those movies where the trailer is much, much cooler than the actual film. You know, like Sin City and 300.
Now this trailer for David Fincher's Benjamin Button is on higher platform altogether. The cinematography looks absolutely fantastic, but what's crazy-impressive are the make-up/CG effects making Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett look young and old (Look! It's Brad Pitt from Meet Joe Black!). This could be Fincher's masterpiece.
