spikelee.jpgSpike Lee is at it again and this time he's fighting with Italian partisans instead of Clint Eastwood. Lee's new movie Miracle at St. Anna is stirring a new pot of pissed off people with the survivors of the Nazi occupied Italian town that his movie takes place in. They are distributing protest fliers stating he has manufactured history.

Lee wanted to set the record straight about black soldiers in WWII and follows the 92nd all-black Buffalo Division. The heart of the dispute is about a massacre that occurred in the town of Sant'Anna di Stazzema where Nazi's rounded up some 560 civilians and murdered them.

Within the film it is portrayed that the massacre is done in response to resistance fighters with one betraying the town to the Nazi's and this is what has angered the people of Italy. Lee of course went after the protestors with his usual vigor;

"I would not allow anybody to tell me how to make a film, be it a partisan or the president of the United States,"

The members of the ANPI resistance fighters association didn't find it funny. "For Spike Lee the partisans who 'hit and then ran away' were responsible for the Sant'Anna di Stazzema massacre," they continued, "Before shooting his film, the director should have read the truth about that horrible slaughter,"

They posted a copy of a 2005 verdict from the Italian military of 10 ex-Nazi's that were convicted of the murders.
