markwahlberganimals.jpgYou know, I often say that Andy Samberg is SNL's saving grace these days. No disrespect to Bill Hader, but he's better off doing Judd Apatow movies than the lame materials he's assigned to. Samberg's offbeat and off-the-wall sense of humor provide those Digital Shorts that remain true to Saturday Night Live's original spirit of providing edgy and innovative humor. This season, however, the big buzzword is Sarah Palin, so every single week we're treated to Tina Fey's Sarah Palin skits. And since it's election season, every week those skits make headlines.

Last Saturday's episode was no different. The skit, parodying the Vice Presidential debate, was the water cooler object of discussion. Even though there's a skit much funnier than that one on the same episode. One where Andy Samberg did a bang-on Mark Wahlberg impression.

I'm not going to say that Mark Wahlberg is non-descript, but you've got to admit that he doesn't really have a stand-out characteristic like Walken or Pacino. I don't think I've ever seen anyone try and do an impression of Wahlberg before, but Samberg nailed it here. The fact that he's talking to animals just makes it seem even more like him, for whatever reason.
