As of writing, Saturday Light Live is still airing here in the West Coast, but NBC.com already has clips from the episode online. The show opened with a McCain appearance, unsurprisingly accompanied by Tina Fey doing Sarah Palin. What was surprising was how the Senator's sketch mercilessly made fun of Governor Palin. Either John McCain didn't get the jokes presented in the sketch (unlikely) or he knew that most of the jabs were aimed at his running mate and not him so he didn't care; whatever the case may be, it's hard to believe that his campaign allowed him to appear in this... unless this is McCain's staffers' way of hitting Palin back for "going rogue." With only 3 days left in this election, are we seeing the Republican ticket splintering?

The Premise: As a response to Obama's infomercial airing in primetime slots on major networks, the Republicans purchase the only slot they can afford—doing an actual infomercial on QVC. What follows then is staggering in its bluntness.

First McCain shrugs about having no money for his campaign while Fey-Palin strokes her fine dress, then she interrupts him while he's speaking, then the sketch targets her constant mentioning and defense of questioning Obama's relationship with Bill Ayers. The jawdropping part is at the end, when Tina Fey lifts up a "Palin 2012" t-shirt. I know this is a comedy show and it's good to poke fun at yourself and all, but holy crap! Who the hell can't see the bitterness in this?

The thing is, this caricature isn't too far from the truth, apparently. Just earlier today in Polk City, Florida, CNN was surprised to find that John McCain's name was nowhere to be found at a Sarah Palin rally. Palin 2012, indeed.

P.S.:

It should be noted, however, that McCain himself is pretty damn funny. His bit on Weekend Update was great:
