Funniest Political Attack Ad Ever! PDF Print E-mail

prop8ad.jpgTake a look at this hilarious new political ad that started airing today on CNN, MSNBC and Comedy Central in certain California cities (including San Francisco, where yours truly resides). I saw it on MSNBC this morning during election coverage and started cracking up because of how utterly ridiculous it is. This 1 minute sketch, called Home Invasion, urges people to Vote No on California's Prop 8 (the gay marriage ban) by showing two members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints attacking a lesbian couple's home. It's like The Strangers, but with license-tearing Mormons. I love it.

MUAHAHAHAHA! TAKE THAT, LESBIANS!

According to the group behind the ad, Courage Campaign, the Mormon Church is the biggest force behind the Yes on 8 campaign, raising over $20 million to stop same-sex marriage. They're not too keen on this ad. It's getting a lot of attention in Salt Lake City, and the Church has released this statement regarding it:

“The Church has joined a broad-based coalition in defense of traditional marriage. While we feel this is important to all of society, we have always emphasized that respect be given to those who feel differently on this issue. It is unfortunate that some who oppose this proposition have not given the Church this same courtesy.”

Talk about negative campaigning. I wish all political ads are this silly. Most of them are already fictional anyway, why not go all the way and make something entertaining, like those McCain ads by Hollywood directors we posted a while back? Speaking of which, here's a new batch, featuring McCain ads by Jason Reitman, David Lynch and M. Night Shyamalan.

These guys are friggin' genius. Watch the first three here.
