"Top Gun" Bar Burns Down PDF Print E-mail

Every year when I go to Comic Con down in San Diego, I always pass the infamous Kansas City Barbecue restaurant, located just down the street from the convention center. It's a famous place and everytime I see it it's always packed—no doubt thanks to the big banner proudly announcing its ties to Tony Scott's gay love letter to the USAF Navy.

I've only been in there once, back in 2006, when they were coincidentally celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Top Gun. Now I might not be able to again, because a fire that started in the open cooking pit and spread into the interiors today burned the place down. Nobody got hurt, but the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department says that the landmark restaurant is destroyed.

I'm sure they'll be able to have it fixed, but for now, let us give a moment of silence... No, better yet, let us sing for its memory. I'll lead:

Wrong bar scene. The Bar is featured at the end of the movie with great balls of fire.
