Legendary Pictures has confirmed rumors that they are doing a follow-up to 300, though it's not yet revealed whether it'd be a prequel or a spin-off. Legendary co-financed and produced both 300 and Zack Snyder's Watchmen for Warner Bros and is now fast-tracking this sequel.

Variety says they've already got Frank Miller attached to write the screenplay, but Zack Snyder isn't a lock yet. He'll wait until he sees what Miller comes up with, the trade says, but he's definitely interested. But if he passes or some other bigger project comes his way after Watchmen, what then?

"The vision of Frank Miller's universe that Zack Snyder brought to the screen in 300 is unlike anything ever seen before," said Legendary's Thomas Tull. "We want to be certain that the story originates with Frank and be as compelling as the first."

Seeing how Miller is now directing movies on his own (The Spirit), maybe he can direct the 300 follow-up himself? The result wouldn't be all that much different, really.

Maybe it would be better if Snyder doesn't do it. He has yet to do an original film at this point, and he's attached to one based on his own idea called The Last Photograph, a drama about two men travelling through war-torn Afghanistan. Whether or not he can pull that off remains to be seen, but it certainly sounds like a better project than trying to recapture 300's moment of glory (which is sooo 2007).
