Fan-Made But Still Cool "Batman 3" Poster PDF Print E-mail

Here's a poster that's been making the rounds on the internet tubes today (originating from an SHH forum member). It's a fanmade, so don't get too excited. I'm sure there are people peddling this as the real deal because it's well-made and looks professional, but the truth is we don't even know yet if The Riddler is going to be the next villain, and the title is definitely not going to be The Dark Knight Returns, unless they want to confuse people into thinking that it's an adaptation of Frank Miller's seminal graphic novel.

It appears to me that a lot of fans—including the maker of this poster—are really getting into this "Riddler as Zodiac-type serial killer" idea. I don't know, I can't warm up to that idea because it just screams needless edge-ification of the character, who in the comics have no problem committing murder, but usually out of necessity during a crime spree, rather than for the creepy satisfaction a serial killer would savor. I don't think you need to make someone scary to be a good Batman villain, although obviously Riddler has to be involved in some form of major scheme to top the scope of The Dark Knight. That is, if he is going to be in the sequel at all.

The tattoos on the hands are a nice touch, giving it that extra "this guy is nutso" vibe; though, again, I hope they really don't turn Riddler into this kind of villain. Besides, a serial killer is hardly the kind of villain that would propel the Dark Knight's legend... and that take would make him too similar to Joker, which Riddler is definitely not.

Comic Trivia: Riddler got a very short-lived revamp in 2005, where after some self-discovery and the realization that he is indeed a criminal genius and one of the smartest people Batman has ever faced, he undergoes a full transformation where he ditches the green costume for a sleek black suit, dyed his hair black, got plastic surgery to make himself a pretty boy (even added a mole under his eye for whatever reason), and tattooed question marks all over his upper body. Curiously, he also got a new personality: metrosexual, suave and calm. He also insisted on people calling him Edward instead of Eddie. Yeesh. If Nolan ever put him in a movie, I wonder if they'll prefer this less campier look?
