Ever heard of Darren Lynn Bousman? Yes? No? Maybe so? He directed Saw 2, Saw 3, and Saw 4, and now seems to be taking aim at the Leprechaun franchise. That’s right, Leprechaun. He told MTV News: “I would do Leprechaun in a second. If Lionsgate is listening, give me Leprechaun.

The titular character, who has previously ventured into the hood, outer space, and then back 2 da hood, would apparently go into the wild west in Bousman’s vision. “You send him in a time machine and transport him to the old west. There are gold rushes. There are gunfights. It’s awesome! I have the whole thing already worked out!”

You know, I really don’t like to judge things before they actually come out, but I can’t imagine any way this could actually be good, but Bousman seems to be fully aware of this. “It’s just one of those fun popcorn movies. I would love to bring back the fun popcorn movie - extreme violence, extreme absurdity - but make it fun." So, at least he’s not trying to provide some revisionism (although, seriously, who among you would not see Leprechaun Begins?), but still, there’s something kind of wrong about this, or at least misguided.

There’s no rule in the book that says that every movie has to take itself really seriously, but something feels off about making a movie that damn bad on purpose, just as a joke, as this clearly seems to be. So far, movies that try to duplicate the hilarity of such ineptly made films as Robot Monster and Manos: The Hands of Fate
