"Superbad" Director Teams with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost for "Paul" PDF Print E-mail

It has been a while since we've heard anything about Paul. Almost a year since the announcement, in fact. I guess the project had to be put on the back burner when J.J. Abrams snagged Pegg for his Star Trek; but now we finally have a director for the project.

Simon Pegg revealed on his MySpace page that Superbad director Greg Mottola will be helming the pic. Apparently Mottola was snared up by the duo months ago, but the deal was kept under wraps. Until now.

Paul is not part of the series of genre satire by the Spaced crew that started with Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, hence Edgar Wright not directing. The third movie—tentatively called The World's End—will follow another time down the line, presumably after Wright is finished with Scott Pilgrim. Speculations are all over the place based on that title. Will it be a science fiction spoof? Monster movie? Disaster movie? No one knows yet.

Written by Pegg and Frost, Paul follows two British comic book geeks (played by Pegg and Frost) embarking on a road trip across America. To further distinguish it from their usual schtick, Frost will play the main character, and Pegg the sidekick.

Pegg's having a busy year and it'll only get busier from here. No wonder he (regretfully) turned down a role in Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards, citing scheduling conflicts.

The Americans will probably wait for the opportune time with this thing before they do what they do.
