The social networks are a-buzzin' today over this screen capture of Neo's passport from the first Matrix movie. Why is Neo's passport suddenly so popular, 9 years after the movie came out? Because some eagle-eyed nerd noticed that Neo's passport expires on—dun, dun, DUN—September 11th, 2001. Shocking!
Oh my God! 9/11! The Matrix! What's going on? What does this mean? Did they know? Were they trying to tell us something? Neo and Morpheus were named as terrorists in the movie! Were they behind 9/11? The answers to the questions above are: Nothing, nothing, no, no, and don't be so goddamned stupid. What happened? What happened was that the prop master picked a date at random. Happy coincidence. Scary? Not really. Some people are speculating whether or not this is a hoax. Hoax? Why would anyone do that? Photoshop Osama bin Laden into Ferris Bueller's Day Off, now that's a hoax. With the kind of obsessively analytical fans The Matrix inspired, I'm surprised it took this long for this to surface. Nevertheless, conspiracy theories are eating this up, ridiculous as it may appear to be. Then again, conspiracy nuts are not exactly known for rational thinking. Especially those guys who are proposing that the Jewish Wachowskis brothers were part of a Zionist movement behind the September 11th attacks. Wait a minute... Zion? Isn't that the name of the city they live in? And didn't The Matrix show a helicopter hitting the side of a building? Holy pink blazers, the signs were there all along! Someone better get cracking on going through Speed Racer frame-by-frame and report their findings to the Pentagon. I don't care if you get a candy-coated seizure doing it—America needs you! Let's see you try and pay homage to Japanese anime from Gitmo, Andy. You too, Larry. |
