"Transporter 3" Poster Looks Like a Watch Ad PDF Print E-mail

transporter_three.jpgWe've got the new poster for the third entry in Jason Statham's career-making Transporter series. If you look at the artwork, you'll notice that it prominently features the device around Statham's wrist. That's not a wristwatch, of course, but a bomb.

Watching the French teaser trailer that debuted a couple of months ago, it looks like Transporter 3 borrows some elements from Crank. Statham's character Frank Martin wakes up dazed and finds out the bad guys installed a bomb on him. If he doesn't do something-or-other, it's gonna blow bla bla bla, you know the usual drill. Who cares? What's important is that there's a scene where he uses a bycicle as a skateboard and another where he drives a car two-wheeled in front of semis. This is a movie to watch.

What I'm most curious about is whether or not they'll explore Frank Martin's homosexuality further. Transporter 1 & 2 director Louis Leterrier once said that he interpreted the character as gay and that he wanted the franchise to deliver the rare gay action hero (hence all the yummy shirtless Statham rolling around in oil and him rejecting that one woman in the sequel), but Statham himself denied this and laughed it off as Leterrier joking around with the media. Could be, but the cat's out of the bag. You're a gay icon now, Mr. Statham.

"Action fans in general are pretty homophobic... If they only knew they're really cheering for a new kind of action hero," Leterrier said in a 2005 LA Times interview.

See, I really liked that interpretation a lot and it made Transporter 2 more entertaining to watch than it had any right to be, but since this third movie is directed by Hitman second-unit director Olivier Megaton while Leterrier was busy directing The Incredible Hulk, chances are slim that we're going to see that subtext in this one. And yes, I'm very much aware that he slept with Shu Qi in the first movie, but I reasoned that he was still closeted then and it was in the sequel that he came out of the closet. Don't question me.

On a related note, what is it with Jason Statham and driving? Talk about typecasting. He doesn't seem to mind it much, though. With Crank 2 also on the horizon—and, if it's a hit, we're sure to see Death Race 2 and 3—maybe Statham was born to start tough-guys-and-speed franchises all over the place. Don't be surprised if his name is on the top of people's list when time comes for a Mad Max/Road Warrior remake. Hey, I'm just saying...

looks like it'll be a good action movie but they really drifted away from the original transporter

The Transporter "Garage Oily Fight Scene" still stands out in my mind. When he puts the bicycle footstraps on and roundhouses his way to victory...hell yes.

Totally agree with ekim. First transporter was class and didn't step to far over the 'thats just rediculous' line like the second one did. Obviously going to have some good action in it, so it shouldn't be too disappointing. Can't say I'm looking forward to it though.

Unless Statham is truly a homosexual, I'm pretty sure he will not do a gay Transporter 4. In fact, he is probrably conferring with his attorney right now looking to sue Leterrier for defemation of character. In your dreams buddy.....
