So with such a slam dunk success—don't forget the $152.7 million domestic box office—I started wondering if we're going to see a sequel. Because a three hour long swan song is not enough and we need to see Carrie Bradshaw's married life and Samantha still sexing it up in her fifties. As it turns out, we might see a different way of milking the franchise instead. Ladies and... Well, just ladies... How do you feel about a prequel? Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell is writing two new novels starring Carrie Bradshaw, this time in her teenage years. The first book of the high school-set series, which will have the younger Carrie observing and commenting on the high school social scene, will be released in Fall 2010. Let's speculate a bit. Assuming that HBO isn't dumb enough to start a new teen series (although I admit I'm mildly curious to see what an HBO Gossip Girl would look like), New Line/WB might still turn the books into movies. Sure, get Amanda Bynes, give her curls, set it in the early 80's, let her make puns about teenage hormones, slap on "Sex and the Bleachers After Home Ec" as a title and voila, instant hit. Maybe. Why not? We've got plenty of raunchy movies about teenagers getting it on. Maybe one with a running commentary wouldn't be any worse. It might even be better than 30-something Sex and the City. Although fans probably wouldn't get to see the three other characters they've come to love.

Having watched the movie, while not my cup o' tea, it WAS watchable. Even without knowing virtually nothing about the characters the movie did enough background establishing to keep everything within acceptable means. Long as hell? Yes. But not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Even somewhat good, in fact. But the High School idea - both in book and movie form - need to be kicked in the ass right now and killed. Need I invoke the memory of Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd? |

Sex and the City reigned supreme last week, with its DVD debut topping three charts on the week ending September 28. The HBO film ranked #1 on DVD sales, DVD rentals and Blu-ray sales. The #2 seller, Leatherheads, only sold 1/13 of Sex and the City’s number. On the Blu-ray front, it beat The Godfather Collection, though thankfully not quite as severely. If Sarah Jessica Parker and her three desperate cougars was selling The Godfather 13 to 1, we might as well start practicing our welcoming cheer for our new Al Qaeda overlords.
