I know we have about 23,905 rumors about The Dark Knight sequel floating around the web, from potential villains to casting news to possible titles. Have you heard about the latest one? John McCain might be playing The Penguin! That's right, if the whole President of the United States thing didn't work out, he can always rule the box office instead of the country.

Okay, so no, it's not really a real casting rumor. It's just a little joke that's been populating YouTube because at his rally last Friday, McCain accidentally channelled Burgess Meredith's Penguin squawk while talking about Sarah Palin. Take a look.

It's actually an inspired bit of casting (he even looks the part!) but I think I prefer this political cartoon naming McCain as Two-Face, given the difference between his "straight talk" years ago and how he stands today. It seems to suggest that Karl Rove is the man to blame...

In all seriousness, though, all those rumors about the third Batman floating around the web? Bullshit, every single one of them. Just ask the writer David Goyer, like MTV did.

“It’s all B.S.,” he said. “ALL of it.”

That means, no, Nolan has not signed on (yet). No, there is no casting, let alone TALK, of villains, and, no, nobody is certain to return.

“Chris and I haven’t even talked about it. He quite understandably is taking a long, long vacation and wants to purge himself,” Goyer said.

There you have it. It might be best to stop speculating until WB releases an official announcement. Or admit that The Dark Knight's ending is a perfect way to close the series and let it go before we eventually sully the legacy.

One last thing... Sarah Palin as Harley Quinn? Eh? Eh?
