'Spider-Man' Musical Gets Opening Night

Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, the new stage musical that follows the origin story of everyone's favorite spider-themed Marvel-owned superhero, has finally set an opening night.

The musical, which is directed by Julie Taymor and features music and lyrics by Bono and the Edge, will go into previews January 16th of next year, and then open to the public on February 18.

Thus far, it has not been revealed whether or not anyone has been cast in any roles, nor, for that matter, what roles are going to appear in the musical at all.

I spent three whole sentences without mentioning that I think this is going to be a disaster. See how I did that? It probably doesn't help that we're in a recession, and the 'would-spend-money-on-a-Spider-man-musical' crowd probably isn't as excited about spending up to $100 on a musical brought to us by the director of Frida and Across The Universe as they would have been otherwise. Because the fan community has vocally expressed interest in something like this at any point, ever.

Maybe I'm being cynical. Because the last time that somebody attempted to create a musical based on a comic book character, it worked out great.

Right?

Right?

Right.
