So "Virtuality" isn't Picked Up, But This is?

Depressing. The above is a trailer for ABC's new show Defying Gravity, about a group of international astronauts on an important six-year space mission, set in the near-future. Want to know why this has already been greenlit for 13 episodes? Because it was pitched as "Grey's Anatomy in space" and is described as "a sci-fi premise but being told in a female-friendly way." Huh? What do they mean female frie--Oooh, you mean crappy romance and plenty of sex. Right. Female.

Creator James Parriott (Grey's Anatomy, Ugly Betty) exec produces with Michael Edelstein (Desperate Housewives) to bring you this story of ex-lovers (played by Ron Livingston and Laura Harris) who are trapped together in this space mission as part of the ship's 8-person crew. 4 males, 4 females, gathered from 5 different countries. Everything they do is monitored and recorded on camera (Angst! Drama! Sexy passion!). Sounds like a dumber version of Virtuality? Yep.

The show will launch with a 2-hour premiere on August 2nd, and will air every Sunday at 10.
