This is Ivy League recently released their self titled debut album and I must say it is quite impressive! You may remember these two guys from a little Samuel L. Jackson movie soundtrack called Snakes on a Plane. They are Alex Suarez and Ryland Blackinton the bassist and guitarist from Cobra Starship, and they have made quite a decent album all on their lonesome. They bring a fresh Indie folk music style that is something any Indie or acoustic fans will fall in love with. Suarez and Blackinton bring an electric/acoustic love fest with great songs, beautiful lyrics, and great rhythm. This is Ivy League has been compared to Simon & Garfunkel and Belle & Sebastian which surprises some that they have so many dedicated tween fans buying their album and merchandise.

This self titled self released album has many things to say and gets it out there while keeping you entertained at the same time. You will find yourself bobbing your head to the beats while being surprised that you are truly enjoying something this awkward sounding. They create an album that will absorb you in and keep you in a music high all the way until the end. Within this orgy of musicology they have beautifully produced tracks such as “Visions Of Tokyo,” “Viola,” their hit single “London Bridges,” and one of my favorites, “An Introduction”. The beautiful thing about the track “An Introduction” is that it is just an instrumental that splits the album and gets you ready for the second wave of musical love making that will occur. The only real let down on the album though is the start of the second part of the album after “An Introduction.” “Modern World” and “Til The Day” are hard to get through between “A Summer Chill” and “Visions Of Tokyo” which are 2 of the best tracks on the entire album but beyond those 2 tracks this album is smooth sailing!

Overall, This is Ivy League delivers without a hitch. “London Bridges” will bring a lot of people in to trying this album out and will be hooked with “Viola” and “Visions Of Tokyo.” This shows the true range of Suarez and Blackinton from their other band Cobra Starship with the varying styles they use. I must say I am thoroughly impressed by their work in this album and am looking forward to the next amount of work they put forward. This opens up a lot of ventures for both This is Ivy League and Cobra Starship considering the range of talent that both Suarez and Blackinton posses and could allow them to skyrocket through the underground and mainstream music industry with seemingly no end in sight to the possibilities they have in their hands. Take a chance and check out This is Ivy League’s debut album! You will be surprised!
