It is few and far between when the culture of music is blessed with such a talented artist such as Jenny Lewis. Many of you may know her from the band Rilo Kiley. While others may recognize her from her young acting career. Regardless of how you know her name, the important part is that you know it. She is changing the way Indie records are made, and her new album Acid Tongue proves that. With its very relaxing music, this album is perfect to put on for a night drive. Her lyrics are very unique, while staying very simplistic. Her lyrics hit home in certain areas, be it your own personal politics or your lot in love; with this album, there's a little something for everybody. Her vocals on this album are, in no way, anything to complain about. It just seems that over the years, Jenny's vocals keep getting better and better. When I first got this album, I thought that it would be very similar to her first solo act, Rabbit Fur Coat, where she performs with the Watson Twins. I was pretty much wrong in this assumption. While the first album had a much more Soul/Pop feel to it, this album demonstrates a clear love for acoustic and electric rhythms. There are very catchy beats and beautiful solos, both vocal and musical, that make this album one worth listening to. If you're a fan of the indie scene, or just love that good ol' Jenny Lewis, I definitely recommend you pick this album up. Favorite Tracks: "Pretty Bird", "See Fernando" |
