People.com is reporting that former Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland checked into a Van Nuys, Calif., jail on Monday (May 12) to serve eight days for a second DUI conviction.

Weiland\'s first DUI conviction occurred on April 28, where the controversial singer was sentenced to 192 hours in jail for a November 2007 DUI. In addition, Weiland received four years\' probation and forced into an 18-month alcohol program.

Guess he fell asleep during class.

Weiland was billed to join Stone Temple Pilots at Rock on the Range on May 17 in Columbus, Ohio. However, quick math reveals that if Weiland\'s sentence began today, he\'s going to be behind bars while STP takes the stage.

No official announcement has been made regarding Weiland\'s appearance at Rock on the Range.

Update (5.13.08): Looks like no official announcement will be needed. According to TMZ, Weiland was released from jail last night at 6:54 p.m.: a whole 14 minutes after he was officially booked.

Blabbermouth reports that Weiland turned himself in at 8:55 a.m. yesterday, was booked just after noon, and then checked into prison at 6:41 p.m.

Is that a jail time record?
