The title of this album says it all; it definitely is something to be proud of. It showcases just what Montgomery Gentry is all about; love, life, and being proud of where you came from. Considering this is a greatest hits album it goes without saying that it is full of great songs. The better majority of the album consists of upbeat bar room type songs that are great for blasting on the stereo system. All in all this is a solid album that does a great job to highlight the great work Montgomery Gentry has done in the recent years.
There are a lot of standout songs on this album as I mentioned before. Mainly because it is a greatest hits album, but also because the new songs included on the album are equally as good as the hits. “She Don\'t Tell Me To” is the first song you\'ll hear when playing the album and you\'ll find yourself recalling the verses later on after hearing it. It\'s a great song that shows just what it\'s like when you find the right woman. “Something to be Proud of,” the title track is hands down my favorite of this album. It features a great balance between the lower pitched vocals of Eddie Montgomery, and the great voice of Troy Gentry. I\'ve had this song on my frequent played list for a while now since owning the album. Other songs that standout to me at least are three mainstream singles of the past; “Gone,” “Hell Yeah,” and “My Town.” These are all great songs and always have been.
There aren\'t really many criticisms you can make towards a greatest hits album. The only criticisms I could see would be if the new tracks on the album were seen as just fillers rather than quality songs. That is not the case here as the new tracks are even better than some of the greatest hits on the album.
If you don\'t own any of the above said albums I would definitely recommend purchasing this one. It features Montgomery Gentry\'s best work and adds some great new tracks on top of that. If you own any or all of the previous albums, I would look into maybe buying the new singles if you want to save some cash as it is a greatest hits album, although it is nice to have all these great songs already organized on one CD. Overall, it\'s a great buy.
"Something to Be Proud Of" is on sale November 1, 2005 from Sony BMG.
