Happy Happy! Joy Joy! Disturbed has a new album. FINALLY. It\'s been three years since the band has graced us with material and fans were in withdrawal. As if afraid their two album run was all that would ever be.
Disturbed hit the scene with brutal lyrics and harsh anthems that metal heads embraced with the strength of ten thousand fists. So it\'s fitting that the bands long awaited third album bears the name. Whether you’re “down with the sickness” or have a “violence fetish” the itch you couldn\'t scratch now has a cure.
From the opening song intro the band builds an energy that just explodes a sigh of relief. “Evil can no longer go on a raise, if this disturbs you then walk away. You will remember the night you where struck by the sight of 10,000 fists in the air,” Words I will remember for a while. I picture seeing them in concert with the crowd in a fist high frenzy. This is an almost perfect album, with awesome lyrics and that unique disturbed sound we have come to love.
While most will know the single “Guarded,” any song on this album could have been picked to be the opening single. There just isn’t one bad song on the album. If you’re a Disturbed fan what are you waiting for? This is arguable their best album, and one to get ASAP!
Hold up though, those of you that have heard the album are probably wondering why elements were skipped over. Well, the music stands on its own. They didn\'t have to do anything extra and fans would have flocked to the stores to raid the shelves. But the band did something extra special courtesy of Todd McFarland. Yes, the legendary Todd McFarland did the album art and it looks awesome. If you’re a collector, the special edition is a must have. The art work... a picture is worth a thousand words. Go take a look for yourself, Todd did an excellent job. Look for it as a tattoo near you...
And last but not least, the only issue the album had. I leave it for last because it\'s more of a personal preference then an issue. Track 11 is a cover of the Genesis song “Land of Confusion.” While it\'s an excellent cover of a classic song it doesn\'t fit the rest of the album. It doesn\'t take away from the album but it doesn\'t add anything either. What I would like to see is the band take this cover, along with the cover they did of shout, and do a retro album. But to go all out hardcore and then throw in a cover kind of disrupts the flow of the album. Hopefully they have the 80\'s covers out of their systems. They are awesome, but getting them to fit well on an album is a challenge.
This is an angry, brutal album that will speak to a lot of people. Worth the wait and then some if you ask me. If it takes another three years to make a quality album like this then so be it, you guys take your time. We\'ll be here when you’re ready!
"Ten Thousand Fists" is on sale September 20, 2005 from Reprise.
