Mudvayne - Lost & Found Review

When I first heard MudVayne, I thought they where just another generic metal band. I didn\'t really pay much attention to them. But that all changed when the movie ghost ship came out. Anyone remember that? It was a decent movie, but the song MudVayne had, “Not Falling”, over shadowed the movie. It was actually better then the movie, and was an excellent choice for the theme. As soon as I heard the lyrics:

I...I stand, not crawling, not falling down.
I...I bleed the demons that drag me down.

...I was hooked. I started to pay more attention, and listened to other songs and quickly became a fan. This band is very talented, they have good lyrics, and they just play like they don\'t give a damn. When I heard they where coming out with a new album I had high expectations. What would they come up with? Would they come up with another song that would infect my mind like a virus?

*shrug* only thing to do was to play the album and find out. It had a decent intro and a great first song. It was like a war anthem for the stubborn. I could see people going nuts in a mosh pit and it brought a smile to my face. The basic pace of the album was a bit random. It kind felt like they went into a studio and just made a bunch of songs they felt where good and took the 12 best. Like magic there it was, another album. I wouldn\'t be surprised at all if they had enough to have another release soon.

The first single off the album, Track 3 “Happy?” is by far the best choice for a single. It\'s not representative of the whole album though. It was almost like they knew they had to have a good single for the radio and POOF “does it make you happy now?” We got your single right here Sony! The song I would like to see as a second single would be track 5, “fall into sleep”, the line “fall into sleep, fall into me, I have a dream, but no body cares, no body wants to listen!” just sparks a lot of visuals. It\'s by far one of my favorite songs on the album. I know making it a single would ruin it with over exposure, but I\'d like to see what they come up with for a video.

“Choices”, track 7, is another one of those songs that is a good listen but it\'s a bit long. Eight minutes and five seconds is a bit drawn out. The last minute is one big fade out... whatever; it doesn\'t really take much away from the album.

Some of the songs do seem to drag on, and track 10-12 are my least favorites, which probably explains why they are at the end of the album. MudVayne did their best to have a complete package here. There isn\'t a song that is infectious like “not falling” but there is a lot of great stuff here. If your a metal fan you won\'t be disappointed. I look forward to their next release, and this CD has been stuck in my car since I got it! And that is the ultimate compliment an album could receive.
